Based on the anime series of the same name, the Raoh Gaiden PlayStation Portable game was released on the 22nd of January 2009.
It is a one on one fighting game which features most of the major characters from the show, along with some characters who were only ever in the Ten no Haoh manga, like Jagi. Whilst the game was only released in Japan, it will work on any region of PSP, and the menus are all in English. |

Gameplay

Each battle has you fighting against a single opponent per stage. The fights take place in small arenas, and it is possible to avoid enemy attacks by sidestepping around them (double tap up or down to do this). There are buttons for punching, kicking, jumping and blocking, and each fighter has their own "Ultimate" techniques. By attacking the opponent or receiving damage, you will charge up the ultimate technique gauge at the bottom of the screen. When filled to at least level 1, you can perform an ultimate move which will do a lot of damage if it connects. Whilst the ultimate techniques vary greatly for each character, they are all performed in the same way: hold the L and R buttons, then press X or circle. |

The game has several different game modes. Story lets you pick a character and then fight certain other characters, with text only cutscenes between battles. Free battle mode lets you pick a character, and then pick the CPU opponent you want to face. Survival mode is where you try to defeat as many characters as possible, with only limited life gauge regeneration between fights. Time attack mode is where you must try to defeat all opponents as quickly as you can. Practice mode lets you try out moves and combos, and there is also a network option if you want to battle a friend. |

I used to own a copy of this, it seemed like an OK game -nothing special, but not awful and probably good for a Hokuto no Ken game. There doesn't seem to be that many moves for each character though. |
