TRAILER 1

For some reason, Toei decided to put out an early trailer for the movie featuring animation that wouldn't be used in the film itself. The animation quality is around the same as your average episode from the second chapter of the TV series. The music used in the trailer is also taken straight from the TV series, none of the movie's score is heard at all. None of the characters seen in the trailer talk, there is instead a narrator talking over the action.

The trailer starts with a shot of a ship wedged through a building, this would be seen in the finished film, although it was altered a little. Lin can then be seen walking across a lot of dead bodies as their spirits rise out of them. In the movie, there is a part where this does happen, but Lin isn't there. You see her walking from what appears to be her own aura instead. Another thing of note is that Lin is using her TV series design in this trailer, whilst in the movie she was given a redesign. There is then a shot of many shooting stars, which is used in the finished movie, but again, it was altered slightly.

"At the end of the century, a terrible disaster destroys almost all of civilization."

Probably the strangest thing appears next: some sort of mutant. The mutant seems to yell out and holds their head in their hands, whilst watching the shooting stars. A cloaked Kenshiro is shown before we see him about to fight Rei or team up with him. You then see Rei apparently going to take on Fang, which never happens in the movie.

"Amidst all of the violence, a man with cool eyes has appeared. He is a master of the assassination style, the North Star divine fist! And for the first time he is appearing on the big screen!"

Shin then makes his only appearance in the trailer, as he is shown leaping towards Raoh. The key difference with Raoh is that he is colored completely differently to what he looks like in the TV series. In this trailer, he is colored more like his manga counterpart. I don't really understand how this happened as Raoh had appeared in the TV series by the time this trailer was made. In the finished film, Raoh looks like his TV series version. Kenshiro is then seen ripping his shirt off, using animation taken from this episode of the TV series. Raoh is then seen attacking Kenshiro.

"Life is hell, death is hell."

Raoh uses ring-shaped projectiles. These hit Kenshiro and injure him. A city in the background begins to fall apart. A scene like this would be featured in the film, towards the end when Kenshiro rushes towards Raoh -Raoh hits Kenshiro with a blast which sends him back, although he doesn't get beaten up like he does in the trailer.

"With his fists, he destroys evil!"

"FIST OF THE NORTH STAR! An original story exclusive to theaters. Now in production! Released in March '86."

TRAILER 2

There was also another trailer which features the movie's poster as the background. In the bottom left corner, footage from the first trailer is used. But around halfway through it, the screen gets sliced up and displays several stills on it. But almost all of these stills feature things that aren't in the movie at all! They are most likely just pieces of promotional art, and not lost animated sequences. One other than of note is that the song "Heart of Madness", buy Kodomo Band, plays during this trailer. This song would be featured in the movie, when Rei fights Raoh.

Kenshiro holding Yuria, who might be injured. Yuria is wearing the dress she has in the Southern Cross scenes.

Kenshiro doing some rapid kicks. This would be used on certain DVD covers.

Rei fighting Kenshiro. Looks like Rei managed to hit Ken here, whilst he doesn't in the actual movie.

Lots of destroyed cities are seen in the movie, but not this one.

Here's an odd one. It shows Raoh with Yuria on the Black King. Shin is standing near to them. It seems Raoh is taking Yuria and Shin can't stop him? In the movie Shin doesn't even get to see Raoh take Yuria.

This shot is in the movie -it's used when Rei attacks some of Fox's men. However, the background seen here is different.

Kenshiro and Rei fighting punks together at an unknown location. Nothing resembling this appears in the movie.

This is seen in the movie, when Kenshiro knocks down some buildings. But the background here is different.

This is in the movie, but it has a different background.

Bat, Lin and Airi running through a subway. These three never visit the subway in the movie, only Yuria does. Also, whilst Lin has her TV series design here, Airi has her new movie look.

Uighur seemingly about to attack Bat and Lin. There seems to be something surrounding Bat and Lin, like some kind of aura? There is a village like this in the movie, but Uighur, Bat and Lin never go to it.

This shot of Kenshiro appeared on some promotional material, but never in the movie itself.
