At the stadium, the second round of the semifinals is about to begin: the Toguro team against the Gorenja team. However the younger Toguro brother is missing, the elder Toguro says his brother had some important business. At the hotel, Genkai says Yusuke will wake up in time for the finals, and then cryptically tells Kuwabara not to lose. She then leaves without saying anything else. Back at the stadium, the first match begins, with Karasu fighting Midorenjya. Karasu avoids being hit by Midorenjya's acid projectiles, and blows his arms off just by touching them. He then kills Midorenjya by making his entire body explode.

Kurama is watching the fights, but believes that as he is now, he won't be able to take on Karasu or Bui, let alone the Toguro brothers. Elsewhere, Botan and the others see Genkai, but she tells them to cheer for the Urameshi team, and tells Keiko that she's leaving Yusuke in her hands. She then heads off. Back at the stadium, the second match ends quickly, when Bui swings his giant axe to obliterate Kirenjya in one strike.

Toguro tells the remaining Gorenja team members to fight him all together, if they beat him he'll let them go to the finals. They all attack using their sanjuu sasou (triple concerted death strike) technique, but before they can do it, they each get impaled by Toguro. Momorenjya dies before she hits the ground, whilst Akarenjya and Aorenjya survive. Toguro tells them he'll spare one of them. Akarenjya tells him to just kill him now, if he doesn't, he come back to kill Toguro someday. However Aorenjya begs for his life. Toguro kills Aorenjya, saying that he hates those who are disgraceful. He tells Akarenjya that Karasu and Bui said similar things to what he said before, when they fought and lost to the Toguro brothers. It's made them far stronger than they used to be, and it's why they are now on their team. But even now, the two of them are still after he and his brother's lives. The Toguro brothers love guys like them.

But he reveals there is one more difference between him and his brother. He stabs through Akarenjya's head, killing him, and says that he often breaks his promises. Later on, Kurama encounters Bui and Karasu. Karasu messes around with him, and then says that one of the Urameshi team will die today. He says that out of the five Urameshi team members, he likes Kurama the best, and that killing things he likes depresses him. It makes him feel the same as when he thinks why in the world he was ever born. But he also admits he finds it to be an indescribable pleasure. He says he's looking forward to two days from now, and then he and Bui walk off. Kurama thinks he can't beat Karasu -not like this. Meanwhile, Genkai confronts Toguro. Toguro tells Genkai she's gotten old. Genkai says he hasn't changed.

He wants to know why she wore a mask, and thinks it's because she didn't want him to see her as she is now. She tells him not to be so full of himself, and says this place is crawling with demons -she didn't want to reveal herself to them, as many of them would want to try and take her head. Toguro then asks her if she passed on her spirit wave, and she tells him Yusuke now has it. He tells her he no longer has any further business with her, and starts to power up. As he does this, it causes Yusuke to wake up, and he runs off to find Toguro and Genkai. Meanwhile, Toguro says he doesn't want to look at the aged Genkai any longer. She says she can't put up with him either, as he went as far as to sell his soul in search of youth and strength. He says one of them must go away, and he charges forward. Genkai says she'll take her remaining strength, which consists of three spirit gun shots, and use it to blast him with all her spiritual power!

Manga differences

-In the manga, Jin, Toya, Chu and Rinku are all in the hotel room with Genkai, Kuwabara and Yusuke. In the anime, none of them are there.

-The manga does not show the full fight between Karasu and Midorenjya -the first time Midorenjya is seen, he's already has both his arms blown off. The anime changed this to show how this happened, and also showed Midorenjya using his acid ball attack.

-In the manga, the part where Kurama thinks not watching the matches like Hiei chose not to happens later, after the second round semifinal has ended. In the anime, it happens after Karasu kills Midorenjya.

-The scene where Botan's group meet Genkai does not happen in the manga.

-Koto's commentary about Kirenjya and Bui's weapons doesn't happen in the manga.

-In the manga, Kirenjya's remains land on some of the spectators. This isn't shown in the anime.

-In the manga, the moment the remaining Gorenja team members try their death strike technique, they get impaled. The anime changed this by having them leap around the ring for a few seconds, then prepare other moves (Momorenjya's nails extend, whilst Akarenjya and Aorenjya prepare projectiles). They then get impaled.

-Elder Toguro's flashback is mentioned in the manga, but not shown.

-The manga has a flashback where Toguro tells Genkai about his gear of aging. This flashback isn't featured in this episode, but it will be shown in the next one.

-In the manga, Kuwabara follows Yusuke out of the hotel, and points that the stadium is in the opposite direction to where Yusuke is heading. In the anime, Kuwabara isn't present when Yusuke is seen running out of the hotel.
